Mental Health Initiative
For my Abnormal Psychology course during the spring of my junior year, my final project was about Teen Anxiety and Depression: My Final Project Webpage. From my research for the project, I began an initiative to better mental health support in my school. I met with the Student Life committee to implement some of these changes.
Evolutionary Psychology: Empathy
I decided to seek out an extra learning opportunity in my school this year. I am working with a teacher to research evolutionary psychology. We are studying how humans developed empathy, the limits of empathy, and the application of empathy in the modern world. I am in the process of writing a 20-30 page paper on empathy.
Hawken Project
Instead of taking an intensive class in the fall of my junior year, I decided to branch out and develop my own project. I worked with the faculty of the Outdoor Leadership program at my school to reconstruct our Wilderness First Aid teaching plan. During the second half of my project, I traveled to North Carolina to take an 85+ hour Wilderness First Responder course through the National Outdoor Leadership School.
Shaker Fire Department
I am interested in eventually getting my EMT certification, so I wanted to explore that possibility. Last summer, I decided to shadow my local fire department, riding in the ambulance. I was able to learn more about the emergency medicine field. I'm hoping to shadow again later this year.
